Nursery enjoy learning basic skills in a fun and friendly environment.

The early years are a very important time for toddlers to learn about the world and their surroundings. From when your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and support their development, care and learning needs.

Useful Resources:

For more information about your child's early years, please visit the FoundationYears.org website.

There is also the EYFS Parents Guide document, full of useful information for your child's first year in school.

Phonics and Reading in Nursery

Nursery follow the DFE Letters and Sounds Phonics program.
Letters and Sounds is a phonics resource published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2007. It aims to build children’s speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.

Nursery also follow the Jelly and Bean reading scheme. The children are read books in the scheme that only contain basic words for them to learn. The use of known sounds, simple vocabulary and high-frequency words means that the children experience success straightaway. Reading to toddlers is enjoyable and encourages them to learn more.

Useful Resources:

Take a look at the governments Letters and Sounds document from the www.Gov.uk website.

You can visit the Letters-and-Sounds.com website.

Our reading scheme books can also be found on the JellyandBean.co.uk website.
