Nursery enjoy learning basic skills in a fun and friendly environment.

The early years are a very important time for children to learn about the world and their surroundings. From when your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and support their development, care and learning needs.

Phonics and Reading in Nursery

Nursery follow the DfE Letters and Sounds Pahse 1 phonics program.
Letters and Sounds is a phonics resource published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2007. It aims to build children’s speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.

Nursery move on to the Read Write Inc Phonics program once Letters and Sounds Phase 1 one has been completed and children have secured the skills required for using phonic knowledge to read and write words.
