Safeguarding

Safeguarding
at Sacred Heart Primary School

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School and Nursery. We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we work hard to maintain a ‘Culture of Vigilance’ through appropriate formal training from SIL and national providers as well as regular ‘in-house’ training and updates to ensure that keeping our children safe is our staff members’ highest priority.

We support our children’s understanding of keeping safe through our Core  Values and through our bespoke curriculum, ensuring that they learn about strategies to keep themselves safe as well as the risks to be aware of in the modern world.

In addition to our PSHE curriculum, we use themed days or weeks to raise the profile of spotlight issues, including Friendship Week (Anti-Bullying Week), Safer  Internet Day, Road Safety Month, Bike-ability, Crucial Crew and the NSPCC’s  Speak Out, Stay Safe programme. Our community police offices and local emergency service teams (including Surestart) visit our school to deliver assemblies and workshops on keeping safe – from Bonfire Night to First Aid and Hate Crime). Through regular revisiting of themes and issues, we aim for our children to develop the appropriate strategies to keep themselves throughout their time at Sacred Heart and beyond. We want every one of our children to make a positive contribution to school life and society,  continuing to learn and develop safely and responsibly for the rest of their lives.
